by mr. brickman
he was no bones, flesh and brain
dried in scorching heat
wet in drowning rain
... and no pain
he never complaint
they said he's doing nothing
sitting duck all day long smiling
... and rustling
dances by the wind
scaring thieves that flying
at night of cold and shivering
helpless as he's standing
... and watching
the mice on the ground were chewing
his hay foot now missing
as harvest month came by
the farmers smile
with a silent lullabye
there went mr. hay and rye
the scarecrow bid his farewell and goodbye.
